Whenever I consider using an online shop for the first time, I always look at the “about us” page to see if I can get a feel for the people involved and whether they are the sort of people that I can trust to, not only take my money (because even the bad ones do that) but, deliver the goods that I’ve ordered as well.
I’m sure that I’m not alone in doing this and therefore would like to give you a brief history of Scott’s Toy Box and how the website came about.
We first opened our shop, Scott's Toy Box, in 2002. It was based on the holiday complex of Fantasy Island, Sea Lane, Ingoldmells, which is next to Skegness on the east coast of Lincolnshire.
We quickly become established and well known for quality toys and models including our extensive ranges of Lego, Take Along Thomas, Hama Beads, Ravensburger Jigsaw Puzzles and Die cast vehicles. In fact, many of our younger customers referred to us either as “The Car Shop”, “The Thomas Shop” or “The Lego Shop” and made us their first place to head for, when they came to Ingoldmells!
Many of our customers visited our shop on a regular basis, others we only got to see once or twice a year when they were on their annual holiday or a day trip to the area. We were often asked by those customers if they could order over the internet. This had always resulted in a 'sorry, but no' reply.
This changed in 2008 when we launched our online shop and acquired a purposely-equipped warehouse. To all of you friends (too many to be named here, but you know who you are) who have mentioned, suggested, requested, bullied and cajoled us into starting an online side of the business, we would like to thank you and dedicate this site to you.
The original goal was to develop the site and product range to meet the expectations and requirements of our regular customers and as an opportunity to reach a wider audience. However, it soon became apparent that the majority of our online sales were from people looking for products that were either retired or rare and the business evolved to meet that demand.
In November 2011 we decided to close our mainstream bricks and mortar shop so that we could put all our effort into expanding our online business that now, more than ever before, specialises in retired, rare and hard to find collectable toys.
As part of that expansion, we started selling through Play.com in December 2011 and in February 2013 we were invited to have a Shop Front (ScottsToybox) in the MarketPlace on Rakuten’s Play.com.
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight that “Retired”, “Rare” and “Hard to find” does not mean second-hand. All our products are still in their original “new” condition, unopened, with all factory seals intact and no visible damage to the box. If we were to sell an item in any other condition, the product description would be amended to accurately and clearly reflect this fact.
One further point that is worthy of mention, as we are completely loopy about LEGO, we still stock items in the current LEGO range.
If you like the site and service you get then please tell all of your friends!
Thank you for taking the time to read this page and I hope that you will make many purchases from us in the future.
